Each year the Undergraduate Scholarship Office awards nearly $3.5 million of scholarships to thousands of first-year students from West Virgina and around the country. Be sure to also investigate private sources.

To receive priority consideration, you must have been admitted by February 1. If funding is available, students applying after the priority deadline date may receive scholarship consideration.

Grade point average (GPA) us based on information received from a student’s high school transcript and is calculated using the cumulative GPA for grades 9, 10, and 11.

The highest composite test score from one test date is considered for scholarship qualification.

Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee that a student will receive the listed scholarship.

The PROMISE Scholarship

The PROMISE Scholarship is sponsored by the state of West Virginia and pays complete tuition and fees to any public college or university in West Virginia, or an equivalent amount to an in-state private college.

Please review the PROMISE Scholarship Web site for an in-depth review of this opportunity. Additional details can be found on the PROMISE FAQ.

We are committed to helping you reach your educational goals without burdening you with excessive student loan debt. Your total bill for tuition, fees, housing (if applicable) is calculated. Then, we deduct the amount of your PROMISE Scholarship and any other WVU awards from the amount you owe. If your scholarships and other funds exceed the amount of your bill, you will receive a refund check that can be used for other expenses, such as textbooks, meals, laundry, etc. For more information, visit the WVU Undergraduate Scholarship Office Web site.
