Getting Started

MIX

What is MIX?
Now that you have been admitted to WVU, we want you to get connected with our campus! The Mountaineer Information Xpress, or MIX, is a Web platform customized for WVU students. Through MIX, you can check your grades, send and receive e-mail, register for classes, pay your tuition and fees, keep up with student organizations, and find out what’s happening on campus.

How do I log in?
The two pieces of information necessary for logging in – your MIX e-mail address and your WVU student identification number – are printed on your WVU admittance letter.

To log in:

  1. Click on the MIX logo on the WVU Home page or go directly to http:./.www.mix.wvu.edu.
  2. In the box labeled “User Name,” type in the first part of your MIX e-mail address before the @ sign (eg, jsmith).
  3. In the box labeled “Password,” enter your default MIX password. Your default password is the two-digit date of your birth plus the last four digits of your WVU student ID number. For example, if you were born on March 5 and the last four digits of your WVU ID are 1234, your default password would be 051234.
  4. Click the “Login” button underneath.

If you have any problems logging in, you can call the Help Desk at 304-293-4444, watch the video tutorial, or follow the links on the login page for additional assistance.

Can I change my password?
Yes. Beginning February 4, 2008, all users will be prompted to change their password (PIN) when they enter the STAR system. When you change your password (PIN), it must be exactly 6 characters long, contain only alphanumeric characters and is case sensitive. You will need to change your password (PIN) every 90 days. Once the password (PIN) has been changed, the new password (PIN) will be used for future access to MIX and eCampus as well as STAR. You can also find our more information on changing your password by clicking on the “How to Change Your Password” link listed under “Other MIX Resources” inside MIX.

What if I forget my password?
In addition to changing your password (PIN), beginning February 4, 2008, you will also be prompted to provide a security question and answer in case you forget your password (PIN). If you are unable to access your account using this feature, you will need to call the Help Desk at 304-293-4444 and request that the password (PIN) be reset to the default.

What kind of information is on MIX?
MIX is the University’s primary means of communicating with students. Through MIX, you may receive messages about your major, reminders about approaching deadlines, and campus event information. The best way to learn about WVU is to log in to MIX and explore on your own.

What is STAR?
Inside MIX, you will see a row of tabs at the top of the page, one of which is the STAR tab. THis connect you with the WVU STAR Information System where you can check your financial aid award, pay your tuition and fees, receive updates on your housing assignment, and look up your roommate.

How do I send e-mail?
Just click on the e-mail icon inside MIX to access your e-mail. The format is similar to other e-mail programs, with an address book and folder for an Inbox, Drafts, Sent, and Deleted. You have 250 MB of storage space. Each e-mail is limited to 2 MB with attachments of 1.2 MB. Messages over one year old are automatically deleted, so it is important to copy important files and messages to your computer’s hard drive or to another storage device.
